History (HX): Dementia and progressive memory loss under treatment Female 65yr
Findings: Brain MRI shows diffuse cortical atrophy more prominent in the temporal lobes with temporal horn dilatation (more than 3 mm in diameter) and dilatation of choroidal-hippocampal fissure complex Diagnostic (DX): Alzheimer disease (dementia Alzheimer type or DAT) Discussion: AD is the most common dementing disorder. Increases in ventricular size, sulcal size, sylvian fissures size and total CSF volume are noted in patients with DAT compared with age-matched control subjects. Atrophy increases over time. The subiculum of the parahippocampal region appears to be most severely affected in DAT. |
